EFPT Lanzarote 2016

Back in Holland again after a great Championships. Finished 14th overall after 2 double eliminations. This championship was “AMAZING”, we’ve had incredible conditions during the contest. Waves, strong wind and level during this contest was the highest we’ve seen so far in any Freestyle competition! Very excited to break in the top 10 again in second double elimination (9th place). Still need to improve my contest sailing more and more. So time to review learn and train harder 😉 Congrats to my friend Steven van Broeckhoven winning the event and of course to all other riders, everyone was ripping so hard! Last but not least, big shout out to the organizers of this event very proffesional we’ve been spoiled by you!

To sum it up: moving forward and craving for more of this!

Words from the EFPT:
“The second Dutchie of the fleet Maarten Van Ochten (JP/Neilpryde) who is having his competition comeback this year went for nice double forwards and air chachoos at the reef. He managed to pull some very decent heats in the single and also double elimination yet had to give way to Loick Spicher in the end”

“Maarten Van Ochten (JP/Neilpryde) was filling his sheet against Manu Rodriguez , Loick Spicher and Tonky Frans who eventually ended his run through in a very close heat. Van Ochten showed shakas, shove it spocks, forwards, air-chachoos, burners, burner 360ies, switch chachoos and airfunnel 360ies and proved that even after a break in competition sailing he was still a rider to watch out for”!

My favorite tools for this contest were:
Boards: JP Australia Freestyle 92L and JP Australia Freestyle 101
Sails: Neilpryde Wizard 4,5 to 5,4
Style: NP Surf 2/2 mission Shortleg and NP Surf Mission Harness

PWA | PODERSDORF

PWA Podersdorf 2016

What a blast to finally compete again! It’s been a while since I was able to compete again, but I’m back on tour again and it’s very exciting for me to perform again on the highest level! The PWA Podersdorf was a great way to step out of my comfort zone and to challenge my level against the very best Freestyle windsurfers in the World. I could win a couple heats and I lost couple too. The level right now is again very high, though I feel that there’s much more potential for me and so there is for others in the upcoming tourstops. The new live-scoring system at the PWA is great way to get the needed feedback to step up the level of sailing during heats. Even though I had a couple of good heats and lost by sometimes close scores, I really know now where to improve! I’m thrilled to be back again, as this will be a very exciting year!

Thanks to all my loyal sponsors, partners, familie and friends supporting and believing in me!

EVENTS | The Mission

The Mission:
We had the chance to give a nice freestyle clinic for all visitors at Strand Horst.
We were supposed to go on the water, but because of the lack of wind, we decided to do more of a Q and A.
This also allowed us showing the first previews of the new Neilpryde Wizard, right now the best Freestyle sail on the market.

PWA | Worldcup NL

PWA Worldcup in the Netherlands:
A historic moment, having the World Cup back in Holland. The last World Cup has been in Zandvoort back in 2000,
so it has been a while. Not having been proparly healed, the organizers of the World Cup at PWA DAM7 asked me if I could
fulfill the roll as a speaker, during the event for both PWA and EFPT competitions. Eventually that was a small part of my
Job at DAM7. It became clear, that I could help out a lot more for both PWA and the EFPT. I helped out with the media,
the riders, the riders tent, registration, price giving, coordination, rescue-guards, for the crew etc To sum it up;
A great learning experience working together with a great team. It was kind of weird to stand on the other side,
instead of on the water, though I was glad that I could invest my knowledge and my skills to help out with this great
World Cup event. So much positive energy :)

EVENTS | The Mission XL

The Mission XL 9th edition
The 9th. edition of the Mission. Great winds, big prices at the tombola and huge party. Great action for the audience, free lessons provided. Giving more people the chance entering the sports and lot’s of activities for the visitors. The weather forecast was predicting a storm for the whole weekend, eventually this actually never took place and on friday we’ve had 12-20 knots of wind. Perfect for a the annual slalom competition. The whole day there have been quite some intense racing and in the late afternoon a nice freestyle demonstration. During the freestyle show “battle of the giants” a big shower kicked in and the wind suddenly disappeared, so a mixed show of first power moves and later light wind show. Still giving away a great show for the audience. Later that evening the party started, the atmosphere was great. And during the tombola there was a big chance to win nice prices like wetsuits, boar bags, masts, booms and they even gave away a sail and a board. Aswell for Sunday the wind direction was slightly different, onshore and now even more strong with a average of 15-25 knots. All together a great event event for any windsurfer and non-windsurfer.
